WHAT IS METATHINKING?
Metathinking enables complex thinking skills. It involves the practice of reflecting on one’s own thoughts. When we recognise patterns in our thinking, we can notice what might be missing from our thinking and, from there transform our thinking and become more fluid, complete and creative thinkers.
«THE ABILITY TO PERCEIVE OR THINK DIFFERENTLY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE KNOWLEDGE GAINED»
David Bohm
WHY BECOME A METATHINKER?
The world we live in is volatile, complex, uncertain and ambiguous. The solutions that worked for yesterday’s problems no longer work today. Cause and affect are rarely as simple as night following day. When we act, we discover all manner of unintended consequences. A complex world requires complex thinking skills.
«A METATHINKER IS ALWAYS THINKING IN SUCH A WAY IN ORDER TO GET A DEEPER AND RICHER UNDERSTANDING OF REALITY»
HOW CAN YOU BECOME A METATHINKER?
The essence of Metathinking is to ask oneself questions about the way we are thinking. There is a special set of questions that one can apply to any complex problem that we call <<mind openers>>. We enable people to become more capable thinkers by showing them how to apply mind opening questions.
«THERE CAN BE NO SHADOW WITHOUT LIGHT, NO GOOD WITHOUT EVIL, NO POSITIVE WITHOUT NEGATIVE»
TRY OUT METATHINKING?
Consider the object in this picture. Do you recognise what it is? Now ask yourself the following questions: What is the object a part of? How might the object be changing? What relationship does this object have to any other objects? How might the object transform over time?
