BOOK
WHAT YOU WILL GET FROM THIS BOOK.
This book explores dialectical thinking – in contrast to logical thinking – and introduces you to the new mind-opening thinking process we call “Metathinking”. In three parts we introduce you to the why, the what and the how of dialectical thinking. We include several case studies and a series of exercises.
WHAT IS DIALECTICAL THINKING?
Dialectical thinking is a way of thinking that sees things in the world in terms of their continual movement, development and connection to what is around them. Because dialectical thinking allows for multiple perspective and tolerates contradictions it is better suited than logical thinking for collaborative working between people who have contrasting ideas.
FOUR MODES OF DIALECTICAL THINKING
Our notion of Dialectical Thinking is one where everything one can think about is considered to have four particular general characteristics. Firstly they are always part of a bigger whole. Secondly they are always in flux, never static. Thirdly they are intrinsically related to other things and take their identify from such relationships. And fourthly, they have the potential to transform developmentally or regressively, especially when humans take intentional action to transform them.
